I’m getting married in 3 weeks time, and have just moved house from my all male shared house, to my new house where I will be living with my future wife. I have moved from a house with:

a 32″ widescreen television, 4mb broadband internet wifi connection, cordless digital telephones, dishwasher, modern stainless steel cooker-oven, frost-free fridge/freezer

to a house with:

no cable access, no internet access (but only capable of UP TO 3mb), a downsized 4:3 television and no wifi network…….However, it is all a matter of time!

Building a home together is one of things I am most excited about. Being removed from the technology I so love, has given me the chance to reflect on how the majority of my social time is spent indulged in technology. Whether it is browsing the internet, watching TV or a DVD, playing games consoles, cooking snacks, chatting on the phone, some form of technology is involved in my social past times.

Moving house poses a challenge, as nothing is set up for at least a month or so. Trying to find the best deal for your situation is also another challenge. Being on a single income and tight budget means my bandwidth is compromised! However, there was a sky dish already installed, so with the acquisition of an old sky box, my TV channels are still plentiful!

During my technological exodus, I have been surprised by how much I enjoy talking to my fianc̩e, reading books and making friends with local neighbours! It۪s always good to step back and take a look at your life and see what things are taking up your time and whether they are important or not. Technology can be very immersive and demanding of your time, yet at the same time seem as if it is the answer to all your problems!

In a month or so, I will be in my new house with my wife. I will have broadband internet access with a wireless network, satellite TV, DVD and audio system linked, digital cordless telephones with free evening and weekend calls, our kitchen will be adorned with cooking equipment courtesy of wedding gifts. However, my wife will be my priority and my past time, technology will have to be second best €“ and I can€™t wait for that!
